Moonwalk by llvllagic Moonwalk by llvllagic
I always wanted to make a close up pic of Michael, especially cause of his eyes. This one was the first that came into my mind taken from Moonwalk autobiography.

Things I used was: mechanical pencil 2B. Common pencils H, HB, 2B, 5B, 7B, 9B. Kneaded eraser and pencil eraser. Tissue and Tortillion. Graphite powder.

thank you :)

It's not that smooth as I want it to be lol

I first start with H pencil by stroking vertically and in 45 degrees (or any direction with 15 degrees difference). Then I wrap my finger with tissue and blend it. I used to blend with finger only but finger can get oily and leave some marks. Then I go y HB pencil and repeat the blending part. I make shades with not softer than 3B pencil, usually HB pencil. And once I make some changes, I use tissue.

wow, thanks a lot!!! :glomp:

i've got problems with removing pencil strokes, so i'm still searching for the best technique. I keep on asking people that can do it perfectly! :D Then i'll try them all and choose (or find another one) my own.
Thanks soo much, it will really help me a lot! :D

also, about shading with using tissue, like you adviced me.
Some were just shading with the pencil :O and somehow it didn;t leave any strokes... anyway, that's somthing i coudl never do :P i mean, i do te shading with just colouring it with pencil, but it awas have strokes, so it doesn't count :P

some were just advicing typical crosshatching... just putting pencil strokes in every different direction and jus adding some more pencil on some parts where it shold be darker...i don't really know how to explain it, my english still sucks xD but if you watch any tutoral or sth, i bet you'll see you know about it:P

some where just putting shading with pencil, likethe were drawing sth in shape of littrle circles etc... somehow it woked fr them, i have no idea xD i think i'll try tht sth with the tissue anywya, as you were advicing me :P sounds the most reasonable... and by trying all of thse later, i may find out my own way :P

i'm so sorry for late answer! i coudln't be there lately...

I am the same as you. When I went to art classes we were forbidden to use any smoothing tool like finger. They said the right way for shading is just crosshatching that you mentioned. But only from one side to another. Not from one side to other and then back like ppl usually do. Anyway, I don't like it cause I can't get it smooth. So I used finger when teacher wasn't looking :p Only recently I started to use tissue instead of finger.

yeah true...
well, i'm not really fan of art classes.
I mean, i never attended any. Twice i went for first lke. organisation lesson on 2 different art classes, and after 5 mins i knew i'm not gonna appear there anymore XD
i think that drawing is way too personal thing to follow only one instruction said by art teachers. Everyone should use techniques that are themost comfortable for him , and find new once. And that's really the spirit of drawing, i guess :D

I agree with you in every word :) I went to art school for 2-3 years cause my mom told me to go. I was maybe 10-13 years old or something. I hated that. I hated to draw something I wasn't feeling, I hated to draw what I was told to draw - some apples, cans, lamps etc... When I was older I entered college where I had art classes as well. I still didn't like them but not that much cause that is also some kind of practice and it's also great to chat with other ppl about everything while you draw. When you're a child you don't want to talk, you want to act lol

But I agree totally. It's great to learn on your own. To ask around about techniques, to follow tutorials and to discover things on your own for yourself.
